2006 Prius Pricing

First Time Poster!

I was just wondering, for my own etification and that of potential/eventual buyers, what are the going rates with respect to location and time for a new Prius.

I just bought mine today - Jan 7, 2006. It's a new 2006, Silver, fitted with everything (I think Package 8). I paid 780 below MSRP and I live in the Chicagoland area. I did not trade in and I did not use their financing.

Is anyone else getting charged above MSRP or getting below?

I'm adding a quck poll too if you don't want to give details!

Mine - red, package "C" ("HI" - has VSC, extra airbags, nicer stereo, homelink mirror, bluetooth, but not leather or nav), ordered in November for delivery in January (should be here any day now!) was flat MSRP; the dealer made it pretty clear that he wouldn't dicker, he had no trouble finding buyers within a day or two for any Prius that arrived. I was not going to use their financing but they got me a better rate than I could find elsewhere (my CU, online), so I'm taking it (5.29%, up to 60 months but I'll probably do 48). I don't have a trade-in. I'm in upstate NY, and I did shop around a little, mainly looking for a dealer with a short waiting list, who could get me what I wanted ASAP after 1/1/06.

Gosh, I just can't WAIT!!! :D

what dealer did you get to go under MSRP? I'm in the area as well and would be interested in knowing. my dealer will only do MSRP for the Prius

I got mine below MSRP because i couldn't afford the payment and they had to do something to get me to buy. They gave me 500 off mine. I was there abuot 5 hours before they did this hour and already had the car overnight once.

I guess I'm the only sucker that paid over MSRP. I was having a hard time finding the color and package I wanted. I did not feel like waiting months past Jan because of the tax credit rush. So when a dealer called to tell me that someone backed out on what I wanted I knew I would have to pay for jumping in without being on a list. But had I paid for a more expensive package than I wanted it would have cost me 4 times the amount I gave the dealer. Not to mention a couple more months of 15 mpg in the minivan. After spending a couple months on this site I couldn't stand it any longer. I had hybrid envy sooooo bad.

I don't think you're the only 'sucker'... I usually pay a premium for getting exactly what I want when I want. I think that there is a higher volume of them coming in and I think the ability to negotiate will go up signifigantly. Note that the holdbacks went down this year from 495 to 20. From my understanding, please correct me if I'm wrong, a dealer holdback is profit for a dealer that is included in the invoice price?!?!

At any rate, whether you paid MSRP or not, now that the tax incentive is in place, a Prius is looking more affordable this year.
