Highlander Hybrid P0300 P0302 P0304
Well I've been clearing my P3011 code for a while now as I prep to get ready to rebuild my traction battery pack but this morning some new codes have shown up.
P0300 - Random Misfire Detected P0302 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected P0304 - Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected Now normally you might suspect that either the ignition components (spark plugs or coils) or the injectors might be going south but it's very rare with individual plug mounted coils to have multiple failures at the same time. Same thing goes for fuel injectors. So if this isn't the cause then what could be causing the misfires? Believe it or not it was water in the fuel (I knew this was the case since I had just filled up the day before this started happening. You can see what the issue looks like in this video (this fellow had a lot more water in the fuel than I did): Unfortunately depending on the amount of water you got in your gas you may need to drain your tank and physically drain all the water out. Sometimes you can just run a few bottles of Seafoam (or just isopropyl alcohol which is the main chemical in gas line antifreeze) like I did and it will bind to the water and remove it, but again the safest thing is to drain the tank and refill with fresh fuel. ........and don't forget to give the gas station hell about the bad fuel you got too. |
