Default What mpg could I expect from the TCH.....

in Brandon, Manitoba. 4 months of temps between -30C and -10C. 90% of the time the car would be running short trips, 5km to work, in regular small city (45,000) traffic conditions, flat terrain? My wifes RSX gets 20 mpg (US) under these conditions.
Once a month the car will travel a round hwy trip of 270 miles, at 70 mph on flat hwy. The RSX will return 33 mpg (US) on this trip.
Wondering if the TCH will provide significantly better mileage than the TC V6 under these less than ideal conditions?

I doubt you will get much beter mpg, short trips are the key element here: by the time the engine warms up and you could fully benefit from hybrid system, you're already there. I don't think anybody has any real, first hand experience using TCH in winter, I expect no problems except lower mpgs. If I had to make wild guess, you could probably get 25-30 mpg driving those short trips in the city and 35-40 on the highways. I do a lot of city/ highway traffic driving and my mpg is double (from original 20 mpg to 40 mpg with TCH) but my trips are much longer, 95% of time at least 30 miles or more. I noticed my mpg doesn't get above 25mpg until 2-3 miles into my trips.
Of course YMMV.

Not easy to guess, but I would concur with Peter on this one. Not only that the distance is relatively short, but, also, in cold weather (-10 to -30) the engine will quick in frequently to provide the heat inside the car, if not for traction.

With my 5.5 mile commute - I'm going to be seriously challenged to get decent economy.. That's alright though - I still think it's the right thing to do..

Randy,

I just learned how to do what you're asking the other day and have copied the url for you. Scroll about half way down the page and you'll find exactly how to do it.

Best of luck!
