Warning Lights- VSC, Brake, ABS???

Hi All,

I'd really appreciate some information. My wife is traveling out of state (in Utah) and sent an e-mail describing what has just happened to our 07 TCH at 108,000 miles:

It says "check vsc system", red brake light stays on, abs light stays on. When driving, even backing up its like the car is breaking and speeding up at same time. Jerky when moved car to street. Spot of oil on driveway where front driver side tire was parked. About 5 inch square.
Doing a little search I'm assuming it is probably the brake actuator and needs replacing. Some say it runs about $2K. Any other thoughts on what it might be or how much it will cost?

Any good Toyota dealers in Utah?

Finally, is it safe to drive 5-6 miles to a dealer or should it be towed?
(She is actually visiting that close to a dealer. The next closest dealer is probably 50 miles or more.)

Thanks

John

looks like it. consider that brakes are completely ECU operated. Also, if you tow her, it has to be towed either on flat bed, or with front wheels up on dolly.

got insurance? tow her.

there was a write up on the web how to DIY brake actuator.

oh well, here's one for Prius. they say - do NOT diy.

Well, I'm not sure I have an answer or not. My wife had the car towed to a dealer. They checked it said it was "out of calibration" and they "set vehicle to the correct concern and reset system" (according to receipt my wife has). Cost was $103. She has been driving the car a couple of days now (still out of state) and says it is fine. No idea what caused the problem but we did have the rear brakes replaced in late June.
