HOW TO: Install Sliding Center Console in a Toyota Camry Hybrid (2009)

2 Attachment(s)
I recently purchased a sliding center console (arm rest) for my 2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid. I didn't see much, if any, on how to install the new arm rest. One individual removed the entire console which I later learned was unnecessary.

Therefore, to save the rest of my fellow TCH'ers, I have taken a few pictures and will describe the install.

While I removed the entire center console and arm rest, this was unnecessary. All you need to do is pop off the rear panel where the rear air ducts are located, unscrew four screws and you are done.

The first picture-"underneath console-clips.jpg" shows what the clips look like behind the panel. All you need to do is get your fingers underneath the plastic and gently pull. The panel should pop right off exposing the rear of the arm rest.

The second picture-"rear of console after removing rear cover.jpg" shows the four screws. Unscrew all four--be careful, they are on springs and will pop up toward the end of the last screw. Remove the old console and install the new. Push down on the metal plate until the steel plate holes line up with screw holes. Drop in your four screws and replace the panel. Very easy!

The gray color is part # Toyota Part No 060T/5890506210B0 Door Sub-Assy, Console. I purchased it from http://www.trdparts.com/ for $200 shipped.

Good luck!

Yes, it is a quick less than 10 min job. Just pop off the panel under the a/c vents from the back seat, raise the armrest (to lessen pressure on the spring), remove the four screws, remove the old armrest, line up the new armrest, reinstall the four screws, close the armrest, reinstall the panel. Done.
This is what I wrote about the process a while back.
I installed the sliding armrest on my TCH in June 2006.
It has been well worth the $200 I paid my dealer to order the armrest.
I hope you enjoy having the sliding armrest as much as I do.

I love the sliding arm rest. Completely worth it. I had it in my 2007 Avalon

Question:

Is the sliding arm rest strictly an aftermarket supplied item? Or could I find one in a junkyard somewhere?

This is not an aftermarket product but one normally installed in the loaded non-hybrid Camry's. Thus, you could find one at a junk yard.
