Break in period
Hi, I'm a new member to this forum. Is there a break in period for the Camry Hybrid? I ask because my dad who lives about 660 miles away wants to see my car--I'd have to take interstates where people drive pretty fast.

Re: Break in period
Break-in Period (from the owners manual)
"Drive gently and avoid high speeds. Your vehicle does not need an elaborate break−in. But following a few simple tips for the first 1600 km (1000 miles) can add to the future economy and long life of your vehicle: Avoid full throttle acceleration when starting and driving. Avoid racing the engine. Try to avoid hard stops during the first 300 km (200 miles). Do not drive slowly with the manual transmission in a high gear. Do not drive for a long time at any single speed, either fast or slow. Do not tow a trailer during the first 800 km (500 miles). |
Re: Break in period
Thanks. I had seen that, actually and I should have elaborated. What it doesn't say is if there is a top speed limit. Rural freeway driving in California generally means about 70-75 mph. Also, on older cars they recommend varying the RPM--i.e. not staying at a constant speed. So the root of my question is basically can I drive 70 mph at a constant speed within the first 1000 miles? (Understanding, of course, that my MPG will go down--but otherwise it'll take 10 hours to get from the Bay Area to San Diego).

Re: Break in period
You'll be fine.

Re: Break in period
Since the TCH doesn't have a "transmission" the engine RPM is not directly tied to your vehicle speed. This eliminates the constant "speed" issue. Another advantage for the hybrid drive!
I 2nd the "you'll be fine". |
Re: Break in period
Good Question!!:thumbs_up :thumbs_up
Just take it easy the first few hundred miles. Driving at the posted speed limits will not harm your car at all. |
Re: Break in period
yes, just avoid pushing it too hard. Easy on the throttle for the first 1000 miles. This is good advice for all drivers since it prolongs the life your engine and drivetrain and it is good for planet earth.
