Service Engine light on MMH not a month old

I was driving on the freeway, no problems when I saw my "Engine Service" light was on. It didn't blink just came on and stayed on when I was on the freeway going 65mph. Stopped twice and it stayed on at ignition. Called my salesperson but she hasn't called me back. I will take it into the dealership in the morning to hopefully get some answers. Has anyone had this problem with their MMH or FEH?

Lisa, how did you make out at the dealer?

The Service Manager called me Monday pm and said the Tech finally reset the system and the light went away. They never really found the problem if there really is one. He said it could come back on or not but to bring it back if it does. He did apologize for the lame answer though. The only thing I can say is the MMH was running fine when the light was on, no difference with the engine running or in EV. So we'll see what happens.
Thanks for asking MyPart.

We had a similar occurrence when our FEH was new. Our problem turned out to be a very tiny leak in the plastic gas filler tube. The dealer replaced it and the problem went away.

Your dealer should have mentioned a loose gas cap will also cause the Engine Service light to come on.

The 09's don't have a gas cap. Supposedly the Tech checked everything or went over the diagnostics and couldn't find the leak.

well I had identical experience this am
driving on freeway at 65 and 09 escape hybrid check engine light came on steady

I did have the car washed a day ago and there is no longer a gas cap
the manual says it is an emissions malfunction that can occur with water in the gas to refill the gas tank with new gas and wait 3 cycles and then if no better go to dealer

One worries that without the gas cap that water is going to get in these tanks
we shall see and I will let you know if this goes away and whether I have to go to the dealer

otherwise by the way a great car--31.5 mpg and rides very nicely

"....and there is no longer a gas cap"

Ok, dumb question.

With no gas cap, do you mean the filler neck is just wide open, behind the fuel door?

I haven't seen a MMH yet...

the 2009 escape hybrid has a new gas cap free system
there is a rubber gasket attached to the door and a push panel diaphragm

I must admit i don't like it and suspect some water got in
but i refilled the tank and will let you know if it goes off on its own

OK one week later engine light off
took one tank of gas and some "water out of the fuel" stuff
dealership found nothing wrong
was water in the fuel I assume
driving great--a terrific vehicle now almost 32 mpg mixed hiway local driving
