2nd UPDATE:Merrill:GM Needs $15 Billion,Bankruptcy 'Not Impossible'
Merrill Lynch warned Wednesday morning GM is burning through cash faster than investors realize and may even face bankruptcy if the auto market worsens and it can't raise enough capital. Merrill downgraded GM shares to underperform from buy.:omg: http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/...0_FORTUNE5.htm |
Re: Who thinks GM will bankrupt by Jan. 2009?
Just like Chrysler in the 80s, or American Airlines in 2003, GM will look bankruptcy in the face, but never have to file. Either Congress will bail it out, or their promise to bail them out will spur private investment that will keep GM above water.
The prospect of the largest automaker in the world going bankrupt is too dangerous for the U.S. government to let happen. It would deal a stunning blow to the economy, and would represent a victory for the terrorists who are trying to cripple us. The United States will go to war again if that's what it takes to keep GM in business. I'm not saying it's right. I'm not saying it's wrong. I don't want to argue politics. I'm just saying that's what I think will happen. . |
