UPS just put in an order for 200 diesel-hybrid trucks from Daimler (aka Freightliner).

Re: UPS buying diesel-hybrid trucks
I only wish UPS would move faster...I can't find it right now, but there was an article where it stated that UPS owns close to 25,000 delivery trucks. So 200 is a drop in a bucket, but it is a good start.
Now, the question is, what is the other service (US Postal Service) doing? I've not read anything about it. Does anyone know? |

 I think there was also a post somewhere here on it as well, with a link and a picture. But I can't find it again. |

They are currently evaluating a fleet of hybrid box vans. I have seen a few of them in the Seattle area from time to time.

This is new:
U.S. Postal Service seals the deal for fleet of alternative-fuel vehicles To expand its ‘green’ fleet, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) recently placed an order for 300 vehicles that run on compressed natural gas, as well as 200 hybrid electric vehicles. http://www.govpro.com/News/Article/80345/ |

That is a good sign towards green living and I hope that will help them to save money as well.

Re: UPS buying diesel-hybrid trucks
Yeah, USPS routes would probably benefit more than UPS with Hybrid technologies. The use of CNG reminds me of the early-mid 80s when some converted engines of work vehicles to propane. My father's friend ran a garage and converted his tow trucks to propane. Other than prematurely burning up the pistons, he was pretty happy with the results.
