Hybrid Kit Car - Diesel/Electric

A high school shop class has created an interesting project car.

RichC, Ohio BIODZL Driver - this should be just what you asked for.

Now get a manufacturer involved, tweak it, and give it a decent warranty.

It's a pretty cool looking car and all, and I bet it's quite a lot of fun to drive (other than the obvious lack of a roof) but 50mpg is nothing impressive. The guys over on TDIclub.com routinely get over 50mpg in their 3000+ pound Volkswagens.

Interesting... it's a kit car that mates with an Accord, but they have modified the basic setup to get electric front wheel drive and ICE rear wheel drive. 50 MPG is not impressive as far as ultra FE goes, but we're talking about a car that can do 4 second 0-60 and still manages to get 50 MPG, unlike the Accord with it's measly 30 MPG, although that's apples and oranges since this is a real sports car rather than a sedan.

Yes over at the TDIClub we've chatted quite a bit about it. I posted a few photos there. The kid in me likes the 0 - 60 in 4 secs and the mature part the 50MPG .... AND the looks have me thinking "mid-life crisis time."

On the other hand this one from L3 Research is pretty cool too. (note: 80MPG and a plug in!)
