What exactly is break-in period? And oil?

Heard different reports from 500 miles to 2,000 miles.

also, when can I put synthetic oil in - do I need to get complete oil change? wait for oil change?

cheers!

My HCH II broke in around 3000 mi, with mpg increasing to the high-40's. Supposedly, the oil has special additives to help with break-in. I noticed my oil needed a change around 4500 mi and I used Mobil 1 syn.

Break-in period is different for everyone, and depends greatly on your driving style. Most folks seem to get their "This is it!" moment around the 3500-5000 mile range. You can put synth oil in the day you bring your car home, but doing so is rather silly. The "first fill" oil has some special sauce (elevated molybdenum particulates being the most obvious) that helps the engine break in better. Most folks here, including myself, will endorse the "Your maintenance minder will tell you when it's time" viewpoint.
