MPG at 80MPH on 2007 HCH?

Hello, great source of info here! In your experience, what should one expect for fuel efficiency on a 2007 HCH at 80MPH on the highway? I am wondering, if at that speed, the HCH has a big advantage of the non hybrid version. Thanks in advance for any info.

It will have a slight advantage. At 70mph, you have a larger advantage. The exact number will depend on a lot of variables. I can get around 37-40 mpg (HCH I) on 120 mile run with 1/2 of the miles on flat surface. The same run in a Mini S, I got around 27-31mpg. Not exactly apples to apples... so I would figure a Civic EX would get a little better.

Thanks for the info! That low huh? I base my low comment on:

1994 Honda Civic EX, at 80MPH got me 34-36MPG consistently (even after 230,000 miles.) This car had an EPA estimate of 35 MPG on highway.

1998 Acura Integra GSR (far more power) gets me 30-32 MPG consistently. This has an EPA estimate of 31 MPG highway.

The new non hybrid Civic has an EPA rating of 34 MPG (38MPG with old style ratings.)

If my experience keeps up, it appears the HCH wont significantly (25%+) save gas for my driving style.

Maybe I should just go for it anyways since I got an offer for 20,500 + TTL for HCH with no nav. Decisions, decisions.

I would agree. Your driving style is not going to lend to great mpg... but if you change that's where the hybrid thrives. At 70mph you will get 45plus. A mix of highway/city will also show greater gains as well. You can only do so much in a non hybrid, the same techniques used in a non hybrid will improve mpg but to a point, the hybrid does a better job of maximizing those techniques.

It is much less expensive to buy an new driving style than a car. I did drive at 70mph before and today I am proud to drive at 57mph. The time saving because of the difference of speed is maginal and you show to everybody that you do something for the global warming, it's more sexy that you might think. :lightbulb

well, i have to say on my car transfer to mexico on the i-35 i drove always 10 % over limit, so sometimes 80 as well....

but i remember when few gasoline was left about 30 miles ahead of laredo and no gas station came !!!

so i remembered what to do and slowed down to 45 miles...

I'm quite sure this saved me to run out of gas...

finally i went 1100 miles from dallas to central mexico, mostly above 65 miles in an overall return of 37 mpg, which is pretty good if you consider the hills right behind the border...

now being here in central mexico i reseted trip b and until now I'm above 50 mpg with driving 40 miles today, wheater here about 90 degrees at the moment, never faster than 50 mph....

best wishes

FLORIAN
