I'd like to replace my a/c compressor with and alternator
I have a 2007 Honda civic hybrid. The IMA battery is now at least 12 years old. I do not want to replace the unreliable battery due to the extreme cost, but with only 150,000 miles on the odometer, I feel that the vehicle can be driven for at least several more years. My idea is to remove the a/c compressor and place an alternator in the same location on the serpentine belt in order to charge the 12 volt battery. I know that this will likely decrease the fuel savings, but I can live with that. Does this idea have any merit? What might be the pitfalls?
Thank you! |

Probably more likely to succeed if you fabricate a mounting bracket and mount it in a more sensible location. I'm pretty sure it's been done on this forum.
