HCHII dash protection... any ideas?

It doesn't look like anyone is making a dashmat specifically for the HCHII... yet...

Any ideas on protecting my dash from the evil rays of the sun? I've read that products like armorall etc. can actually *accelerate* damage to the dash, rather than prevent it? Or is that just another 'net rumor?

Get a sunshade.

OK, but I'm pretty sure I'll have a hard time driving with those things in the window :embarass:

I'm more interested in something that provides protection all the time, not just when parked.

I use this product on the dash of my car and also to protect my canoe:

So far I have to say it has done an excellent job on my 2001 Subaru

I am going with the 303 protectant also. I have also read about Amorall not being so good on dashes. Lots of recommendations for 303 though.

I saw a Civic with a dash mat in a garage and it did not look good. Probably because of the size and all of the contours. Nobody was around so I could not ask where they got it from.

I have the same problem with dash mats that I do with front end bra's. Why protect something that will always be covered up. Loose the dash mat and go with Armorall or a similar product. I suspect if Armorall accelerated wear, they would be in some heavy litigation. You can always purchase an ugly dash mat years from now if your dash cracks down the road.

Here is some information about UV damage to cars and the differences between Armor All, 303 and a host of other protectants:

Thanks for the link, Dennis! :lightbulb

Molex:
Yes, stay away from all of the silicone products (including Armorall).
Lexol Vinylex and 303 are both good for dashes. 303 is shinier.

303 is a good all-around product. I use Black Again for black plastics that have faded to gray, and it works pretty well, but does not last. I'll have to try a topcoat of Meguiar's #42.

Great link, that's *exactly* the kind of info I was looking for! Looks like I'll be stopping by my local Pep Boys to get some Lexol tomorrow, thanks!
