blinking green led accessory w/ switch, anyone know what it is?
just got an 06 hch2 and it has what looks like an add-on (not mentioned in the manual anywhere, and doesn't look factory) accessory mounted underneath the dash to the left of the steering column. it has a single green led on the front, a small metal toggle switch on the back, and a black phone cord sized wire that goes up under the dash somewhere. it...
** blinks when the ignition is off or switched to I ** turns solid when the switch is switched up when ignition is off or switched to I ** goes from blinking to off (when switched down) when ignition goes from I to II ** goes back to blinking when ignition switched from II back to I or off i don't notice anything being turned on/off or otherwise when i muck around with it. but it's kinda freakin' me out...is someone watching me? or maybe listening?? should i wrap foil around my head? any ideas? |

Sounds like an inexpensive anti-theft device to me. I have an 06 HCH and don't have one.
I've seen car dealers install anti-theft devices in all their used cars in the past. If you bought it from a dealer, I'd take it back and ask them if they installed it and ask them to remove it if they did. -dan |
Re: blinking green led accessory w/ switch, anyone know what it is?
Turned out to be a shock sensor wired into the factory harness. Kicking the tire as hard as I could wouldn't even set it off, but when I tapped on the dash piece it was mounted to it finally went off. Seemed useless so I tore it out.
