Default No HAH in 2008 model and after

The word from the auto writers at Autoweek magazine is that the 2007 Honda Accord Hybrid is the last year for the model. Starting in 2008 and after there will be no more Accord Hybrid. Honda will be putting their hybrid effort in to other models.

A new Accord hybrid is unlikely, with sales of the current hybrid model slower than Honda would like. Honda’s new gasoline hybrid engine, meanwhile, will go into something about Fit-sized but not until 2009. A Honda clean-diesel engine is due in about two years, though we don’t yet know where that powerplant will go.

Since the biggest mileage gain in the HAH is from VCM and it looks like all V6 Accords will get it,one could almost say that all V6 Accords will be "hybrids"

It's strange that the HAH has quite a MPG gain with VCM. The Odyssey has it also, but the window sticker only shows a 1-2 MPG improvement over the non VCM engine.

I weighed my wifes HAH the other day and it tipped the scales a shade over 3600 lbs. I would guess the Oddy would weigh over 5000 lbs. and have different gearing ? Will be interesting to see real life mileage from them!Oh, subtract about 170lbs from the weight for me

Curb weight of my '05 Accord Hybrid is 3,501 with a final drive of 4.375.

Curb weight of my '05 Odyssey EX is 4,485. I couldn't find the final drive. However, for gearing nuts, here's the gearing ratio for 4th and 5th gear with/without VCM activated:


4th:
0.727 (0.767-VCM)

5th:
0.520 (0.595-VCM)

It's official now. Honda announced the hybrid version of the Accord is dead.

Not surprised the HAH didn't catch on. Check the database -- its average MPG is at the low end. No doubt owners were disappointed in its FE vs. the HCH and Prius (which just sold its 1,000,000th copy). Looks like you need a 4-cyl. engine to get really good hybrid FE.

Honda sells plenty of diesel Accords in Europe, but according to my dealer (I was just there having my HCH serviced), the company has no plans to do so here.

IMHO, there could be a 4 cylinder HAH after a couple of model years (perhaps 2010?). The 6 cylinder HAH did not make too much sense to me.

Also IMHO, The VCM helps mileage only if you drive the vehicle like a hybrid - little to no throttle when cruising and/or coasting. We had both a 2006 Odyssey Touring (which had a Instantaneous FE gauge), and now a 2007 Odyssey EX-L, which has the VCM also, but no I-FE guage...

People never got the value proposition of HAH - midsize car with high performance V6 engine that delivers fuel economy of 4 cylinder. I am glad I bought my HAH in 2006. This saturday I went on a 270 mile trip (primarily on the highway) with altitude ranging from 4900 feet to 7500 feet, and got 39.6 mpg!! I never saw numbers that high even from my 1995 Acura Integra sedan which was a compact car with a 4 cylinder engine. The only time I saw highway mpg number around 40 was when I was driving 1991 Honda Civic sedan, but that car weighed 2200 lb and had a 92 hp enghine
