Nav slow startup?

I noticed my navigation takes a long time to start up in this recent cold weather. Sometimes takes 20 minutes which I think is how long it take the unit to heat up from the heater.

Any thing I can do?

Where can I get the updated map disc? Dealer only?

20 minutes is way too long. Even when I was driving around in neg 0 temps, my Navi never seemed to take much longer than usual to boot up. So I doubt your problems are temperature related.

The map updates are available from www.hondanavi.com

I hear the previous year's discs are available on eBay for a substantial discount.

Thanks for the info,

I wonder if my disc is scratch too much or if the drive is getting slow.

I will throw an updated disc in a see what it does.

I was looking at ebay and see that most discs are listed for 2006 and up Accords?

Will it work in my 2005?

I would think they are all the same just the listing is off a year.

Do I need a set up disc to run a newer map?

My drive says DVD on it and disc I have is the one that came with the car.

I would like to get a 4.62 disc that looks like it is around 09 or newer.

I'm not sure. Try looking at the different years on www.hondanavi.com to try to get an idea if they're compatible.

When you buy the updated disc, that's all you need. Just load it and go.

My old disc is from '05. Although it's the same info as the disc you have, if you want to pay for shipping, I can send it to you so you can see if a different disc will help it load any faster.

I talked with my local salvage yard and they said I can bring the car down and they will loan me to try. Thanks for the offer.

The site says I need 02 to 05 Orange disc.

If the salvage yard has the wrong disc I will let you know and go that route. I don't want to pay for a disc to find my drive is bad.

Salvage yard disc was not the right one.

I cleaned the disc I have and it looks like it starts faster. I'm not sure on this since the weather has warmed up so the unit is not as cold as it was. The disc has some finger prints on it that I could not get off all way. They are on the out side 1/2 of the disc. I use dish soap and warm water.

I know for sure that when the car is warm the unit starts fast like it should.

I solved this problem;

I found a site that covered this in detail. It said to remove the navigation unit and send it to Alpine for repair. That cost was $168 and took about 2 weeks.

I had to look up the instuctions to remove the unit but that was on a car radio web site. The Hybrid has the navigation in the dash but the conventional cars have it in the trunk. (that would have been easier)

Looks like the belt that spins the disc was worn out and needed replacement. They also changed an electronic part that caused the disc not to load right.

I have had it back in the car for about 2 weeks and so far it work perfect.
