40.7 MPG -- I thought it wasn't possible
 

New member here... Just wanted to share this with others as this subforum is relatively quiet.

I typically get around 28 combined for my commute plus around town driving and around 33-35 if on a road trip, with an average speed of 70.

This past weekend I filled up in Bayville, NJ and drove to Manchester, CT (198.5 miles) and averaged 40.7 (41.6 on the dash) MPG.... I was amazed. My average speed was much slower though, probably around 55-65 mph (i was in no hurry, it was very late).

I've attached a couple photos.... Just wanted to share because I thought that this was literally not possible!

I've been able to get about the same when driving from the Canadian border down I-5 to Albany, Oregon. See link.

Probably because driving North to South is always downhill. Just look at a globe if you don't believe me. ;)

Yeah, I got 40.3 cruising at 62mph on the NJ/Penn turnpikes. It's actually pretty easily doable. The key is keeping your foot out of it and putting on the CC...

I have seen 42 mpg on dash after driving about 130 miles at 77 mph on interstate with cruise control. 35+ mpg is easy to achieve with HAH on highway.

Impressive indeed...I find this Accord show best mileage no matter what as long as you like 2 things happen:

1) ECO mode on

2) Minimal stops

3) Light on the pedal and coast stop...no erupt stops and go.


With this...I drove from Markham to Ottawa with 6.2L/100kms average with 40/60 City/HWY.

5.78L vs 6.2L....close enough, no? :D:lightbulb

One more thing, HAH doesn't like following:

1) Stop and Go Traffic City (IMA battery depletes fast and Auto-Stop will not work in no time!)

2) A/C or HEAT on in the City while stopping helps a lot in depleting the IMA battery fast! IMA battery depleted to 2-bars or less = No Auto-Stop

3) Stopped and in Auto-Stop mode at any given time...same as prior!

4) Did I mention it hates City Stop and Go traffic?

Weakest link to HAH is the IMA battery...it doesn't have enough capacity or juice rather to take on everyday City driving!

If there is some ways there will be an upgraded battery...then HAH will yield a BIG difference in fuel economy.

Solid fact is that when HAH is at 6-bars...it is SO SO eager to ASSIST with its 15HP motor. It will do this dance from 6-bars down to 4-bars before it will THINK and take you out of ASSIST. All this time...it will put you in ECO mode which 3-cylinders are operating.

In conclusion...bigger capacity IMA battery = MORE ASSIST, more ECO mode = HIGHER MPG!

Before I replaced my spark plugs just after 200k, I would max out around 37mpg doing 60 on cc if I jump right on the highway after filling up. After replacing my plugs, this went up to around 46 mpg doing the same--but only if I'm riding solo. It's somewhat seasonal, though--this heat in Texas doesn't let me sustain it very well. In the winter it's better.

I just went to a funeral Friday 2 hours away with my wife and mom in the car with me and I averaged 39-40 for the 4 hour trip. Still not too shabby!

Enjoy your 2007 HAH as I have also. I just hope my IMA battery will still hold true year after year. Wish I will see the light to a more efficient battery to boost our MPG! :shade:

what app is that on your phone? I'm new too. I have noise on what sounds like the left side of the car and only when I turn right at low speeds (below 40).
