2008 tahoe problem

i have a 2008 tahoe hybrid that i bought three months ago used with 86000 miles and love it, but have had many problems already. Including needed a new tps throttle pedal assembly, dvd screen would work intermittently, and now it has thrown a code for catalytic coverters being clogged. They replaced the dvd unit with a remaufactured unit that now has a bunch of options not programmed on it and are in the middle of sending me the second unit that i will have to switch out. But my real question is has anyone had to replace the converters yet? I was backing out the other day and it puffed smoke like i blew a head gasket, then all of a sudden quit and acted completely normal. But it has been using oil. Its been through 2 quarts in three months of owning it. Im familiar with the ls motor and is why i wanted a tahoe, but im baffled on this one.

where did you buy it from? did you get a warranty? you might want to get an engine oil sample and send it to blackstone labs. it has a transferable 8 year/100k mile warranty, so better have it looked at before its too late.

it was used from a non dealership and i did not get a warranty. Im comfortable fixing what ever is wrong but. these odd things keep happening. I have look at the oil and changed it. and it all checks out to me. Clogged cats make sense but seems a bit too early to be clogged up to me, but then again this might be a common problem i dont know about with hybrid tahoes. Is the converters covered under the drivetrain factory warranty?

engine and tranny and all hybrid components but not the converters, I think.

If something went wrong with the engine and excessive oil consumption ruins the converters... they should be covered. Call the 800 number in the owners manual or get to a dealer you can trust. Ask if there are any service bulletins on the smoke and using oil regarding your year and model.

Take it to a dealer. The vehicle should be under warranty for 8 yrs/100k. Chevy replaced my engine at 76k and my catalytic converter at 78k. Good luck:)

Re: 2008 tahoe problem

The replacement was because of oil blow back in one cylinder, it was running rough at idle and I noticed some loss of power. No codes. For the cat, there was a check engine code.

The support of my chevy dealer has been superb!
