Scangauge engine temps

Have loved playing with my ScangaugeII the last couple of days.
Trying to get a handle on engine temperature. The default temp display (FWT - degrees F water temp, I assume) I have found is calculated from the cylinder head temp (CHT) as there is no actual coolant temp sensor. I tried to program a CHT Xgauge using parameters found both on Scangauge's website and here and either get no display or a reading that starts at around 12.5 and goes up a little as the engine warm up. Got the CHT Xgauge working correctly this afternoon. I'll see what that says next time I go somewhere.
The highest temp I saw on the default (FWT) readout after the vehicle was completely warmed up was about 185. Does this sound low? From what I've seen here and elsewhere that sounds a little low (should be about 190 -195 fully warmed up). I saw it cycling up and down about 10 degreees like it was seeing the thermostat opening and closing. Could I have a bad/low thermostat?
P.S. I have firmware version 4.06 on my Scangauge.

I use CHT which runs about 205 to 220 *F

FWT corresponds to radiator temperature. Use CHT for engine values.

Re: Scangauge engine temps

I have an 06 and my FWT always seemed low, I could get it to 190 on a long uphill but would drop to 140-160 when coasting soon thereafter. Found the thermostat was not closing all the way. Not really easy to get at but once changed it makes quite a difference. A bad thermostat forces you into ICE mode more often, especially during winter.

I'll have to wait until I get a new Scangauge to check this out further. My Scangauge (and my GPS) were stolen out of my Escape last night.
But still, if anyone can report what they are getting for (calculated) coolant temp I can figure out if all is OK or if maybe I need a new thermostat also.

During a trip to the high New Mexico / Colorado mountains in the summer of 2011, I saw as high as 219 (as I recall). That was under high acceleration while going up hill. I found out on that trip that the FEH isn't hesitant about going close to redline on the tach. I got up over 6K several times.

I have a 05 and FWT on the scanguage has always read 182 at cruising speed and drops to 176 driving in town

my 2005 FEH almost always shows 185°F.

The ChT and FwT temperatures can move downward with higher ethanol blends. Yes, I have run E85 in my vehicle as I have a conversion kit.
