Radio acts like it was disconnected
 

Here is a strange one at least for me.

Every time I leave the Escape outside overnight and it get pretty cold like 15 degrees or less when I go to start it the next morning it starts fine but the radio will not turn on. I drive for a few miles and then all of a sudden the radio comes one but all my preset buttons and time settings is gone. It is like the radio was disconnected from the battery.

If it is warmer then 20 degrees or so of if I keep it in the garage everything is normal.

Anyone else experience this?

Not normal!

My first guess, but only a guess is your 12v under hood battery is dead or defective. The high voltage battery in back starts the car, can power the wheels, and power the 12v accessories when the key is turned only. When the key is removed, the high volatge battery is disconnected, and the 12v under-hood battery is responsible for lights and radio, etc.

After a few moments of "key on" the HV battery has put enough juice into the 12v battery for a basic quick-charge, and your radio comes back on. All batteries decline in output when cold. Yours may be defective. This would be a simple 1st step to investigate. The radio may also simply have a loose wire or harness. Keep us posted. - John

I am due for an oil change so when I take it in I will have them check the 12V battery. The first time it did it I thought it was just a fluke but it has happened several times since. The colder it is outside the longer it takes for the radio to come back on.
