New Tip to Save Gas in the cold

I think this is a new tip, because I don't remember reading of it anywhere else. I could use some help to see if it works in just my car, just the 2005 FEH, or which are included.

Many people who live in sub-freezing climate have by now noticed and come to expect higher idle RPM while the engine is very cold, and this lasts for many minutes in cold weather.

I noticed recently, if I shift to N and then press the gas pedal RPM will actually go down. And by down, I mean really down.

I get the engine to idle at 800 to 850 RPM. This is lower than a hot engine idle that is usually 1000 RPM. Since you can't measure MPG while standing still, you need to measure gallons per hour.

I've noticed fast idle in D will use 0.5 gallons per hour.
I've noticed low idle in N will use 0.3 gallons per hour, as reported on a ScanGauge. Shifting to N and not pressing the pedal does not lower the RPM.

Try it. Let me know what you find.

I tried this tip today, but throttle had no effect on idle rpm in N. OAT was 60F and I experimented at the first red light I encountered, about 1/4 mile from startup.
