Inner Tie Rods

Although this is not related to hybrids specifically.....Has anyone ever needed to changed the Inner Tie Rods on a FEH 2005?

The garage I went to wants to charge me 140 + taxes on each tie rod and another $100 for labor. For some reason I find it very expensive.....can someone over here please guide me if they had to change the tie rods and how much it cost them

Thanks
A

Re: Inner Tie Rods

Are you sure it's the inner tie rods and not the outer tie rods that need replacing? the outers tend to wear out since there is a joint at the end. The inners are basically a threaded rod with an adjustment nut on the end. Are the inners bent? A Motorcraft inner tie rod is $27.79 on Rockauto.com. so if the estimate is correct, they are way overcharging on parts, the labor seems about right. You would also need an alignment afterward.

Re: Inner Tie Rods

I haven't priced these at NAPA but I have done an entire front end on a Suburban ...And $27.79 is on the right order for a tie rod end.

These guys do merit a handling charge for getting it for you but $140 @ is highway robbery!
