It should be free at the dealer's service center.

The manual calls for 10,000mi before the first oil change and there's also the oil life meter in the console display.

Many people feel changing the oil before the 10,000 mile mark is best. I think it's up to the owner. If Ford will warranty 10,000mi intervals then changing sooner than that can't hurt.

The manual says 10K miles but that just seems wrong after decades of working 3K service intervals. Also, the dealer put a sticker on the windshield that advises 3000 miles after two months.

Well, as someone pointed out the first one's "free" and for sure clean oil never hurt an engine.

Ford's maintenance literature has several recommendations (as of the 2006MY):

Maintenance Schedule Hybrid: (see attached)
10,000 miles - Change engine oil and install a new oil filter

Generic (non-hybrid) Normal Schedule:
Maximum Oil Change Interval is: 5000 miles or 6 months which ever comes first.

Special Operating Conditions: (including)
Lots of heavy trailer towing, or
Heavy commercial use, lots of stop and go, taxi, delivery, etc., or
Operating in dusty conditions, unpaved roads:
Change engine oil and filter every 3000 miles or 3 months

1) the engine uses synthetic, not synthetic blend oil. This would allow at least 7500 mi between oil changes with no problems and longer if desired
2) the engine does not run all the time

I would lay good money that even at 10,000 miles the oil is not even close to broken down or contaminated and the additive package would be in great shape.

GPSMAN1 has an hour meter on his ICE to monitor engine on time. He has basically confirmed a longer drain interval for the FEH.

As far as first change 3000-5000 would be fine. Modern engines are machined much better than your fathers Oldsmobile and dont have the metal bits in the oil. IF this was a concern there would be a low detergent break-in oil and a MANDITORY oil change at 500 mi.
