Re: Disable Auto Lock Feature?

Ï find it aggravating to have to double unlock to deal with groceries, etc. HOWEVER - I often drive my 92 yr old Dad and he (now 3 times - it is memorable) tries to get out of the car while I am still rolling to a stop - and since I am braking, the door OPENS! This causes me heart failure with visions of his broken bones. I thought when moving, you couldn't open them due to the autolock. Can't win.

And, no, it is not my driving - he needs to run to the john!

I don't believe the autolock in any way disables your ability to open the door while the car is moving. The back seats do have the child door locks where the inside door handle doesn't open the door when they are activated.

As far as I can see, the only thing that asinine "feature" does is prevent you from unloading the groceries & retrieving your child from his/her car seat...........

The belief is that a locked car door is more unlikely to pop open in a car accident. Additionally, Carjacking would theoretically be more difficult because your door can't be yanked open.

Whether it helps much is one thing.... but how hard is it to push the unlock button twice? It's not of much use maybe... but I'm a little surprised by the vehemence and anger of some of these posts. There are SOOOOO many other things in the world worth getting peeved over people!:( Deep breaths and relax!

Harder than pushing it down ONCE if you WANT the doors locked (plus you have to remember to unlock it every single time or you're locked out from the far side of the truck......)

I guess its a matter of the fact that I always have the keys with me when I'm outside the truck . I don't particularly like it running without me in it and I'm always afraid I'll be stupid enough to lock the keys inside... so the keeps are ALWAYS in my hand as I exit the vehicle. Therefore I've always got the transmitter with me and a double press once I find the door still locked doesn't seem that bad to me.

I wonder if the locking function is mandated by federal law, much like TPS sensors and such.

That's why I have an exterior door unlocking keypad.

You can always open them from the inside no matter what (except if the child-lock switch is flipped on the rear side doors). You want them to do that in an emergency - you shouldn't have to manually unlock a door before you pull the latch handle to get out after an accident (like they did in the "old" days). The lock will just pop up when opened from the inside.

The last 3 or 4 cars I've owned have had that feature - either autolocking when you put it in "drive" or when the car reaches a certain speed (usually 5-10mph). Doesn't bother me at all - I've just gotten used to hitting the unlock button when I open the door if there's something in the back that I need to get. That and I always still have my keys on hand and can still unlock it with the remote.

No big deal.
