2008 Nav System Retro Fit to a 2006.. Is this possible?
 

Has anyone heard if it's possible to retrofit the 08 nav system head unit to an 06? If so, does it require dashboard mods? Will Sync work?

Love my 06, but really don't want to have to get an 08 or 09 just for that feature.

The '08 NAV does not include Sync. You'll need to get an '09 unit for that.

As for how to go about the retro-fit. I don't think anyone has tried it or at least posted their attempt on this forum. Ford will recommend that you go to http://www.syncmyride.com/ or consult your local Ford dealer for more information. I do not expect that either will be helpful for now.

I note that the Sync web site linked above does not list the Escape as a supported vehichle.

I would think this would be a hard task as the hybrid info display is integrated into the navi unit, so unless all the plugs and wiring are the same for every model regardless of option, it's not feasible or worth the trouble. You might be better off with an aftermarket unit. They have larger screens, better accuracy, and have more options available (ie. ipod interface, sat, bluetooth ect).
