'07 Center Console question

Natalie hung one of those el cheapo air fresheners from the shifter and it left a residue on the passenger side that we can not remove. I have tried everything to get that stuff off including goo off, dishsoap, 3M adhesive remover. nothing is working.

So it looks like we will have to replace the console. What model years are the same as the '07? I've found a few from online dismantlers and the price is around $100. plus shipping for an "A" condition unit.

any input on how to remove this crud or info on the console is appreciated.

It's probably an oil that left the resdue. I'd try ammonia or acetone. Also, not to endorse a product, but Mr. Clean magic erasers get rid of absolutely anything. It might be more gentle on the plastic.

It will smell bad for a couple days, but a very small amount of gasoline or kerosene removes almost anything. Also, alcohol will even remove Sharpie pen from almost anything. ( Another tip, just in case. )

Acetone.... hmmmmmm.... I'd "try that in an inconspicuous area" first. Acetone EATS MOST of the plastics I've worked with and I'd guess it would do the same to your dashboard and trim....

The magic eraser idea is a really good one... it is basically a very microscopic foam of hard plastic that sands the material off but its so fine you don't usually damage the surface...

In fact I'd avoid solvents as much as I could... there are quite a few that will eat plastic and they are pretty hard to control.... is it possible there was a solvent in the freshener and you are actually dealing with damage to the plastic...

As a warning... watch DEET containing products and bug sprays also very good plastic dissolvers. I was at a softball game and used an insect repellent... on my way home when I rested my arm on the center console.... well... lets just say the top surface "stuck" to my arm. I still have a shiny area on there from the damage!

I believe '05, '06, and '07 should all fit OK. Just to mention, even though the Mariner one looks the same, they aren't, which is one of the reasons the MMH didn't have the 110v outlet option.
